i was under the hood of my truck the other day and my ol lady said that my engine was boring (women) so at first i laughed and i then i started thinking whats the point of making the outside look good when the engine looks like plain so the point of this useless thread is to ask for some pics of your motor or any thoughts of what i could do to please this unpleasabe woman i was thinking about pulling the valve cover and intake horn off and painting them but i cant think of a good color the outside of my truck is white

any thoughts?

A white valve cover and horn would look pretty sick, leave all the letters black. I think that would look cool. Paint that alternator bracket too.

RAW 07-23-2012 07:14 PM

I did my valve cover as described above, somewhat.

Intake horn is the same grey. The compressor housing matches the valve cover paint as well. Here is a thread of how my compressor housing was done:

I painted my valve cover with high temp grill paint, it was nice and flat but leaning allover it getting it greasy made it kind of shiney

staylorw250 07-23-2012 10:41 PM

i think i may have to go white and i never thought about the alt bracket what kind of paint would last with the heat and i love the twins look we could just trade:w2:
and empty wallet how did you mask the lettering off i want mine to look that good
thats what i mean i can tell you both have nice trucks and i havent even seen the outside

Just a before and after Nothing special, just cleaned up a bit. The intake horn, and apps braket are bare aluminum with a little mothers metal polish

you made that big of difference just by cleaning it some that after pic is a huge difference the only thing bad about mine is that it came from up north and there is some signs of salt damage under the hood

great pics keep em coming

Thanks man, heres a pic of the valve cover right after I did it, I used a small brush and did the lettering by hand, took me about 2 hours.

It wasn't on yet. Took that picture when I was almost done a Cam swap and turbo re-plumbing. Its a compound setup, HX35/40 over S471. If you look closely, you can see I'm recharging the A/C as well.

yea the valve cover looks like crap and the top of my fuel filter looks bad trying to make things look a tad bit better
is the valve cover hard to remove it looks like a tight squeeze between it and the top of the firewall
so would normal spray paint work well or would i have to use the high temp paint i dont want to have to redo this in a month

Do high temp paint, or get it powder coated, Im from ohio so mines probably just as bad as yours ha, I havnt had time yet to make mine look pretty. I want performance first.

staylorw250 07-24-2012 06:07 PM

probaly high temp no one around here powder coats and yea i bought the truck 98 with 72,000miles but it came up by chicago so the doors are bad and the underneath the truck was bad im trying to get the body back in good shape before i put some more power to the ol girl all that power wont do any good if the truck is rotting away:dang:

I palm sanded the letters and center section on mine instead of hand painting them.

RAW 07-24-2012 06:51 PM

I didn't use any special paint on mine. They grey is John Deere Construction Charcoal, and the Maroon is Snap-On Cranberry touch up paint for my tool box. The temperatures shouldn't get too high to warrant high temp paint. Mines holding up pretty well so far.

If you crank your speakers, you can hear it in this video:

dieseldude848 07-25-2012 02:42 PM

I used 500 high heat I believe it was rustolum or dupli color.

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

the cover is pretty tight coming in and out. id atleast get some 500 degree paint, it wont rub off if you spill somthing on it, and will last quite a while. also mine was real bad as you can see in the picture, i pressure washed it really good, then to remove the old paint/clear coat i used paint stripper, and a small wire brush to get in and around the fuel filter bracket/intake grid plenum.

EvanBoothe 07-25-2012 06:01 PM

I remember when I built 80 psi of boost, lmao not.

RanchhandTCR 07-27-2012 09:08 PM

Since my truck is blue and silver Im gonna paint my valve cover dodge blue with silver lettering and do the alt braket and one day the entire engine at the 500K mark, got 260K to go...

---AutoMerged DoublePost---
