Default EGT and Boost Question

I just installed my Gauges Saturday. Took about a 120 mile trip today the terrain is very up and down. Today I noticed when I jumped on it at a stop light or going up a hill my boost maxes out around 18 with me egt running from 1000 to almost 1200. Does that seem a little high? From reading on here it seems most people with the factory Cummins second gens are getting around 25-30 bounds boost. My question is does my truck have a problem if so what is the most likely problem. My boost gauge kind of jumps around when maxed out. Is this do to the problem or improper gauge installation. I have the factory lift pump and it runs around 12 or 13 on idle drops no lower than 9 when I jump on it. That seems to be about right.

Thanks for the help,
Rhett

Is your truck an 01-02 auto truck?

Sent with a Droid RAZR in one hand and 14,000 volts in the other.

Factory wastegate is set to limit pressure to around 20psi at the turbo's outlet.

Do you have any other modifications to your truck other than gauges?

Little more power and preferably keeping my fuel mileage where it is currently or a little better (around 18mpg). Nothing crazy I would just like my truck to have a little more power. I might change my mind and want to slowly build it up to a beast.

fuel system first then swap to a comp or if you dont want to tap the pump do a set of 75-100hp injectors
