Default 4 wheel disc brakes?

I have a 2001. It has 4 wheel disc. Nothing in my repair manual on disc brakes. It's a chiltons or Haynes. Should I get a 2002 and later for some subjects? Anyone have a good link to rear brake pad replacement?

Can you replace the pads without pulling the calipers?

Nope. Well technically you can pull one bolt and swing the caliper up or down and put your pads on the bridge but pulling both caliper bolts makes it easier.

Some rear calipers the piston turns in instead of pushing in, don't know about a truck never had one with rear discs. If the pistons wont push in you can borrow the tool to turn them in from autozone.

The ones on these trucks are standard caliper and just have to be pushed in. Your referring to a ratcheting caliper found on vehicles without a separate set of brake equipment for the parking brake. a ratcheting caliper acts as a standard caliper without the parking brake applied and when you set the parking brake the piston will compress then release when pb is released. Think of it like how drums are setup on the rear but instead its with calipers. The biggest vehicle i have ever seen them on though was a mini van. Definately not on a truck.

Just a note you have a 2001.5. Half way thought the year dodge put disc on the rear. It matters when you are looking for parts IE brakes.

I wiz wondering if it might be a 2001.5. Was not sure where the cutoff was. Good to know. So it sounds like I might need a manual that covers 2002. My manual is pretty much worthless.
