MPG

so this is my first post and im looking to squeeze just a few more MPGs out of my truck, specs are 01 24v, cold air intake, 5 inch turbo back exhaust straight pipe, quadzilla adrenalin programer, and its got a 5 inch lift running 37s. i average about 14-15 mpgs is there anything i can do you up the mpgs to get around 18 or so or should i be happy that im getting 14-15 on a truck this big? i know a truck isn't going to get great mileage but it would be nice to get a little better. any advice? thanks

The lift and tires are what's really killing you bud. I get 15 in my 99 eclb with 33's on it. I just changed fuel filter. And that's with.the.hypertech at its highest setting. Soon ill be adding a lp. And tuner.

yeah i know the tires and lift were the big killer, the next thing im gonna do is put some 410s in the axles, and being that i work at a dodge dealership that wont be much of a problem!

How old is fuel filter?

Just replaced it not even 1000kshow ago. Now the filters on my airdog system I haven't a clue when they were replaced.

1999stroker 07-18-2012 04:06 PM

Id replace them then as well wont hurt anything. Make sire tire pressure is set correctly. I don't know much about gearing in these trucks. But my 99 running 70- 75 is at about 1800-2000 rpms with 33's. I avg. 15 mpg this last tank but I went 400 miles on it so im happy with that. Soon ill be putting a airdog or Fass on it with a edge cs pr quad. Adrenaline with pulse v2.

you wont be unhappy with the quad adrenalin. i love mine!

1999stroker 07-18-2012 04:31 PM

Yeah i can't freaking decide a neighbor has the edge cs on his duramax and loves it.

Wait did you day that you changed the fuel filter, but you didn't know about the airdog filters? Meaning you ran the airdog through the stock filter having 3 filters? If so big mistake...lol

And your mpg is right with that lift and tires you want get any more out of it.... Take her down a little and you'll see improvements!

akacroftie 07-19-2012 09:22 AM

yes im running the pre filter then the filter on the air dog and then my stock filter at the engine. what is wrong with doing so?

wyodiesel92 07-19-2012 09:41 AM

Your factory fuel filter has a higher numerically micron rating so all your doing is causing restriction. Basically your airdog is filtering down everything and your stock filter doesnt really have anything to filter. I think the rating in the factory filter is 10 microns and the air dog is 5 or 3

akacroftie 07-19-2012 09:46 AM

so dont run the factory filter and i might see some better mpgs is that what were saying here?

1999stroker 07-19-2012 10:11 AM

Yeah delete the factory filter sorry missed that

akacroftie 07-19-2012 10:16 AM

so just run and empty filter housing or is there an actual delete kit?

Dodgemanstan 07-19-2012 11:51 AM

yea, you only need the air dog filters and thats it! no prefilter or post filter the air dog filter will do the trick just keep it regularly replaced...

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

oh, theres no delete kit just take the whole thing off... including the factory lift pump... you will have fuel left in lines to get out but no biggie... the air dog should have come with new lines. so you should only have to worry about running one line to your vp... simple

May not really affect fuel mileage besides lack of fuel to the ip. Try it and see. Are your numbers hand calculated accounting for tire size variation to the speedo or have you reprogrammed the speedo?

akacroftie 07-20-2012 04:40 PM

just calculated by hand from how many miles im getting inbetween fill ups and how many gallons of fuel i put in it. is there a better way to do it that im not aware of?

1999stroker 07-20-2012 05:09 PM

I always reset trip odometer at fill up ( normally on E) then next time take gallons to fill divide it from miles driven.

If your speedo has not been recalibrated then the computer wont read mileage properly either. So if you havent had the truck speedo recalibrated your actually seeing that you are driving few miles than what you actually are along with the speedometer reading you are going slower than you actually are. Hand calcualtion cant account for that unless you are converting your miles to compensate for the bigger tires before dividing it by fuel put in.

how old are the injectors? i have a 3" body and a 2.5 leveling kit on mine with the millitary 37. i was getting 24mpg on high way and my milage droped about last summer it kept getting wers and wers. then i lifted it to the 3 and 2.5 and lost 2mpg i went from 16 to 14. i was pissed that it was at 16 with stock tires and height. i am now getting 9.8 on avg. so i said enough is enough and i looked over my truck and found that 4 out of the 6 injectors were nasty and closed up. so i was just domping fuel in insted of spraying it in. i have put stock injectors in (my brothers old ones) and i now get 18 mpg again. but i am going to get some marien one for 60 hp gain and 2-3 mpg gain.
