Priming fuel system
How can I prime the fuel system after changing my fuel filter? I don't have an extra set of hands at the moment. Is there a simple way to do it? Please help

Bump the starter a few times with everything tight and after a few times start the truck. May run a little rough at first but bring up the rpms for a little and you'll be good.
|
Turn the key on, bump the starter (but not not let the engine start), and let the key rest in the run position. This will run the lift pump for aprox. 25 seconds. If that doesn't get all the air out, crack the return line banjo bolt on the injection pump and do it again until fuel comes out.
|
Where's the return like raw?

turn it over until fuel comes out of injection pump or line?

If you loosen #4 half a turn to 3/4 of a turn, air will come out with the lift pump running. Fuel will follow when the air is out of the system. If you can't get fuel or air from there, try the inlet, #3.

Well I tried that and no luck. Fuel was dripping out of IP but couldn't get her to fire

Dripping, or spraying? There should be a decent amount of fuel to the VP.
If there is fuel to the VP, crack some injector lines to bleed out the lines. |
It was dripping but I had the banjo bolt all the way off. So I should just loosen it a quarter turn and bump the starter until it sprays out? :banghead::banghead:

Hmmm, might need to back up a little here.
Stock fuel pump? If so, block mounted or in tank? How many times have you let the fuel pump run for the 25 seconds? |
I believe block mounted I can hear it running when I put my head in the engine compartment. Don't know if its stock of not.

I've done it a bit letting it prime

99% chance it it stock. Most of the time when an upgraded pump is installed, its frame mounted.
Try loosening the inlet banjo bolt a half turn or so, while bumping the starter to run the pump. |
Ok the inlet bolt on fuel canister or #4 on the injection pump? My buddy told me he just opens the water drain valve and let's it crank for 10 sec. Which I don't see how that would work?

That wouldn't work very well at all. Crack #1 in the picture, fuel supply line.
|
Ok thanks raw. Im going to grab some tools and go try. How many times should i prime? Until fuel flows? And sorry what's your name?

I did what you said and tightened the banking bolt back up and tried cranking it and it didn't fire.so I loosened it back up bumped the starter and it was a constant flow so I let it do that a few seconds tightened everything back up and cranked it for about 10 seconds and she car to life.:beer::D
