3'' v.s. 4'' Exhaust
 

Just wondering if anyone has any hard facts on going 4'' over the stock 3''. Never really seen a good write up on exhaust...

Another loop to throw in is deciding on alum or T409...

I dont think T409 is a wise choice for the money, but I live in MO and dont have alot of snow... Alum lasts awhile and is not that expensive from some ppl.

Just wanting some comments for this or for that.....:tu:

Four inch will be a lot better for it sounds way better than three n it's not so loud where you need ear plugs with five inch. If you are looking to upgrade your truck then the four will flow better than three inch. For which type exhaust I don't really know I have sliverline.

the aluminized systems do rust overtime, i would go with the stainless if you want it to last forever.

Think of it this way, your engine is basically an air pump, you are trying to reduce restrictions coming in and going out of the engine. That is why you put on an aftermarket intake and free flowing filter along with intake manifold, among other things. Now the air is flowing a lot better into the engine, now it needs to do the same out of the engine. This keeps the incoming air at maximum efficiency as well as the exhaust flow at maximum efficiency. This is the reason for upgrading exhaust from 3-4". For hard facts go dyno your pickup with stock exhaust on, then replace with a turbo back 4" system and see the numbers rise.:c:

Far as aluminized exhaust if you don't want it to rust paint it with high temp paint. :tu:

Yup that is very true! The best deal I have found so far on alum 4'' is 276$ no muffler.... Having a hard time beating that....

Don't forget to get some price quotes from our great vendors here on DB. You may find it cheaper. :tu:

I used BBQ paint on mine, and it is holding up really well. If you do paint it, remember to prep the parts first. Wash with paint thinner, scuff with a scotch-brite pad, wash again, then paint. I did it that way, and it's holding up after 2 years.

I tend to lean away from stainless on a diesel. Stainless is hard, diesels vibrate a lot. Cracks may appear, and welding only makes it worse.

Well the alum version I was looking at was around 65$ cheaper. Which isnt that much to upgrade to stainless if you think about it....idk

Depends if you looks at stainless as an "upgrade", I personally don't. BBQ paint is abut $4 a can. I also painted mine black for the look. I didn't want shiny, flashy exhaust. I trying to remove all chrome and shiny from my rig.
