You need to know the fuel pressure. Get gauges.. I had a truck that would only run with the Smarty plugged in, it turned out to be a loose ground at the battery.

My truck died on me n couldn't get it to run all it was is a bad fuse. Check ALL of ur fuses first.

blue chips? ill have to look into that and im not trying to be annoying i am just trying to learn and don't want to fork out 2000 dollars and it just be a bad wire or something i dont understand why it will run perfect plugged into the tool and not the truck
is there anyway i can check the main wires from the ecm to the fuel pump we pressure washed the motor off and im wondering if we knocked a wire loose or is there a fuse, relay, ground, or power wire that i can check

I edited out what I originally wrote to give you this, from Blue Chip website:

"If the engine won’t start, AND YOU HAVEN’T OPENED ANY FUEL LINES OR REPLACED THE FUEL FILTER SINCE IT LAST RAN, and you have either or both a 1688 or 1689 code, the truck will never start until you replace the injection pump, 99% of the time."

Yup Ive had the electronics fried on mine from previous owner... Same thing here, get your codes checked and start from the bottom.... fuses to wires to ground and so on, the simple things will get you all the time...

but thats what im saying it will start and run plugged in to the tool just not the truck thats why i didnt no if there was a fuse or a relay or something inbetween the ecm and inj pump chances are my pump is bad but i want to do everything i can to make sure i cant find a decent wiring diagram on the net if the electronics are fried in the pump then it shouldnt start period no matter what i do but im standing next to it now listening to it run it just wont run itself off the ecm i dont no if this tool is worth a s*** or not because it seems uncommon to most of you guys but ill get a number off of it and try to post a pic of it

problem solved inj pump is fine the signal wire from the ecm to the fuel relay was wore in half there were also two other wires wore badly so i ran new wires and it fired right up to a word to the wise its not always the inj pump troubleshoot first spend large sums of money secondly
