Default 3.73 gears

My truck currently has 3.55 gears in it and when i tow heavy loads its pretty much a dog tryin to get goin. I want to put bigger gears in but dont want to sacrafice too much fuel economy so i was thinking bout 3.73s. Anyone know of where i can get some without breakin the bank? Thanks

Local auto wreckers maybe? I got an entire Dana 80 rear axle for $1000 from our local wreckers. If they sell just the gears, i suspect it would be half price.

what is your tire size, stock or bigger. that is only a 5% change, I have 35" tires on my truck and went to 4.10 gears that gets me back to stock or close.

I have though of doing the same, 4.10's, for better towing. I sure do love the low RPM mileage when I'm empty though.

Agreed 3.55 to 3.73 isnt too much of a change. 4.10s might be better

i have 4.10's and i love it for pulling, but going down the road I'm doing 2500 RPM at 75, i would like higher gears for mileage but I don't really want to sacrifice the towing ability. It just depends on what you are willing to give to recieve I guess haha
