2001 Dodge transmission issues

my 2001 Dodge 2500 is having (automatic)transmission issues. when i'm driving between 40-45mph the tach starts jumping around. i tow a 30ft rv without any issues. i notice the tach when i'm not towing. any suggestions?

It could be your cam shaft sensor.

Another case of converter locking and unlocking. It won't do it under load that's why you can tow without problems.

A apps noise filter or a apps and pcm reground will do the trick.

Hi Im new and have read several cheep fixes for the the TC lock and unlocking issue with very little to no success, 1 cleaned all grounds took ground points on cab to bare metal worked for a week then troubles started again then tried rapping the ground wire with aluminum foil nothing, pulled the wires away from the alternator and still same issue.

I found this in a web search and wanted to know is it worth the money.

I tell you what I had the exact same issue with mine. Aluminum foil around the ground wire that lays across the alternator and a zip tie to hold it up to the bracket To hold it away from the alt. worked. I have not had the issue at all since.

Ive had this issue in my 01 24v for a while now too. It was getting worse so this last weekend I cleaned the terminals at my battery's and I mean cleaned to where they looked new again. Coated them with protectent and installed the BD diesel noise filter. I installed it as close to the computer as I could and found a good firewall ground. I cleaned the firewall to bare metal re installed bolt and coated in protectent. Transmission shifts like a dream now.

That happened to me numerous times. I finally figured out it was because I moved the wires around on the back of the alternator. I had them permanently moved away a bit and solved the issue for a long time. It's now back but had my alternator test bad when I had it out several months ago. Guess I will have to bite the bullet and get a replacement.
