A Little Help Please

Hello, not sure if this is in the wrong section or not. But im going to look at a 99 24v cummins on Wednesday. The truck has 280k miles on it, new hot rod injection pump, air dog 150gph, edge comp box, rebuilt tranny, long arms, new brakes, rotors, and calipers, along with steering upgrades. I've never owned a diesel truck before, and wondering if anyone can share some insight as to what to look for to make sure this truck is mechanically sound, as i don't know too much about Cummins. Thanks.

Idk how much help i will be, but i just bought a 2000 ex. cab 4x4 cummins with 95k on it for 13k. I love the truck but things i didnt look for was bushings, most of them were out but other than that just look for the main stuff like leaks from anything, make sure it drives good, one thing i would consider is that it does have an edge on it, just take that into consideration for the simple fact of how it may have been treated before you got it. Hope this is helpful.:tu:

No problem anything i can do to help, also when i bought mine the guy had cleaned it with oven cleaner and it looked brand new but soon figured the gearbox leaked so if its really clean be a little suspicious.

check to see if it is a 53 block. and if it is, check passenger side of block right below the exhaust manifold and look for cracks, or signs that it has been cracked and fixed. 99s are the most common to find a 53 block.

Bump

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

Forgot to mention that I drove it the other day and noticed that when I put it into drive and reverse the truck would jerk, is this something to be concerned about. And what should the gauges be reading

Could you elaborate on the jerking trans? If it feels like it slams into gear, it's a sign of high line pressure, which is a good thing more then a bad thing.

Front ends are notorious for short longevity on these truck, it would be good to know the last time it was replaced.
