Ignition Switch OFF Engine continues to Run 24v 2001

I have a 2001 Cummins 2500 24v 235HP. When I shut off the Ignition the engine keeps running. Could this be the ASD? or the ignition switch? or ???..I need some troubleshooting guidence. Thanks for your help.-sam

Does this truck have any mods or changes whatsoever to the electrical wiring?

BloodyDuck 06-17-2012 05:41 AM

IT HAS THE EDGE COMPUTER/TUNER INSTALLED. I BOUGHT THE TRUCK WITH 121000 MILES AND IT NOW HAS 132000. I HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH THE TRUCK. OVER THE LAST MONTH I HAVE NOTICED THAT THE MOTOR TOOK A SECOND OR TWO TO SHUT DOWN AFTER CUTTING THE IGNITION SWITCH OFF. THANKS FOR THE REPLY.-SAM

I would unhook the edge and see if it continues to do it. Quick & easy to rule it out of the equasion.

Thanks for the reply. I pulled the Automatic Shutdown relay to stop the engine and removed the battery cables. The cleared up the problem for now. I am not sure if it was the ASD or the removal of power to another system that did it. :humm:

Put your foot on the brake while you turn your key to off .....
Mine does the same thing .... has Edge /Attitude ....it might be a safety feature.

I tried putting my foot on the brake when shutting down...no help...the problem is intermittent... and happens once out of 9 or 10 shutdowns... thanks for the input guys....

Have you tried swapping the relay with a known good relay, or just replacing it?
