PalmB, I started with Rotella when I bought my truck new. I switched to Amsoil at 155k miles and I have 226k on the truck now. I've enjoyed only changing it once a year as opposed to four times a year. It IS less expensive in that comparison, less effort, less environmental impact, and I gained about a half mpg.

The Benefits of using Amsoil far outweigh the price difference of conventional motor oil. Like Zach2 stated you can run extended drain intervals, which in turn saves your time and money. To run extended drain intervals you would want to use AMSOIL - Synthetic Diesel & Marine Motor Oil SAE 15W-40 (AME)

If you are unsure about extended drain intervals but you still want the benefits and protection of Amsoil synthetics you could use AMSOIL - AMSOIL OE 15W-40 Synthetic Diesel Oil (OED)
Amsoil OE will give you all of the benefits while still using manufactures recommended intervals.

You can also flush your engine prior to using Amsoil for the first time with AMSOIL Engine and Transmission Flush

I love these too brands if your going synthetic!!! If you want normal dyno oil you cant beat Chevron Delo 400.... And i am not a big amsoil fan. Every truck i have ever worked on thats had amsoil is the most disgusting engine to disassemble in my opinion. Unless they never change there oil.

You might be able to find it local somewhere but chances are you can get it sent to your door for less. Can fill you in if interested.
