best way to prime fuel system?

ok im about to install a fuel pressure gauge whats the best and easiest way to prime the air out. can i just loosen my filter lid till good fuel comes out cause i will probably put a new filter in anyway. 2001 cummins all stock

Nope best way is to crack injector lines, you've never bled the system before?

I hear ya, I only asked so I didn't explain it all for nothing...

It's best if you have somebody bump the starter while you're already under the hood, I'd crack lines on #1 and #3 before hand, and wait till you see a decent amount of fuel coming out and then close em up... Might take a few tries if you're running the stock lift pump. If you want, crack 3 lines.

One of the big perks to running an aftermarket pusher pump is the ease of priming the system, 2nd of course to keeping better pressures at the vp44.

well my next buy will be a fass system or equivalent not sure about brand yet i just dont have 600 bucks to do it yet.thanks for the info thats how i will do it. if there is still a slight bit of air in there will it work its way out?

Everything above sounds good, but I wouldn't got hat far to start.

If you are really quick (couple minutes) with the fuel system open, just bleed the VP. Crack the return line, bump the starter, and wait for pure fuel to come out. The high pressure side shouldn't suffer in that short period of time, unless there is another leak on the return side.

Bumping the starter should give about 25 seconds of lift pump activation.

all you do is turn that little retaining bolt a few turns loose on the injector at the head right?
