Won't start
Hello
I'm having some issues with my 99 Dodge Cummins 24v turbo. Last Saturday i had some time to check fluid levels, so i did such. after topping off the levels i decided to drain water from the seperator, so i pushed the lever over and let it drain until i could see that it was diesel again. closed the lever. I went and filled with fuel, came home. On Sunday i removed door panels, as the latch wasn't working to open the back door. Found a broken cable. Closed the door, and decided to go out. I started the truck, was about to put it into reverse when it died. I have checked voltage at the pump, and it's giving me 8.8 volts. Fuel is pumping. I know this because i changed the fuel filter last night, removed the line between the water seperator and the injection puimp, ( i wanted to see if that line was blocked or collapsed ) snugged the banjo bolts and primed it up again. Diesel sprayed after pushing the air out. tightened them up. After priming a few times it still won't start. Would the injection pump be full of air and somehow Air locked ? (when i removed the the banjo bolt i really expected to have some back flow drain out but it did not do that. 1. Can I crack hp line and crank to remove more air. (if it is there) 2. What am i missing ? Electronic failure somewhere ? frustrated.:argh::argh::argh: No mods to the vehicle, everything looks to be all stock still. |
crack 3 of the lines that are easy to get to at the head and get the air out it should start then

ok, i'll try that again
how many times should i crank it to start seeing some wet/spray....(assuming 10 sec cranks)....and if i don't see any fuel coming ( do i assume my ip is no good ) thanks for replying, |
What lift pump is on the truck? factory block mounted? they normally aren't too hard to prime so I suggest scanning it for codes, that will tell you if the injection pump is shot. It is possible your lift pump was functioning but not to its potential and the very low pressures wiped out your vp44.

yes i have a stock Lpump, and after it died it threw a Po216 code...(injection timing control circuit malfunction, fuel injection pump timing failure(diesel models))
I'm trying to find guage(s) so i can test exactly how much pressure is coming in and out of the L pump. |
Get a injection pump and fass, install and drive away lol

Ya I wouldn't take a chance with your stock lift pump.
