02 wont start on first crank, help!
my boyfriend just bought an 02 3500 three weeks ago.. after it sits for a little while when we go to start it, it just cranks and cranks.. turn the key back let the WTS light come back on you can now hear the lift pump kick on, turn the key again and it cranks and runs with no problems at all.Can someone please give me some ideas or if you have had the same issue please give me some tips! We want to get some opinions before we start changing everything out and spending loads of money on stuff that may not be the problem, thanks in advance..

Sounds like fuel is bleeding back for sure. Like HRD said, it could be the valve on the VP44. It could also be the fuel return fitting on the back of the head. If it loosens, it will allow the fuel to bleed out of the injectors. When checking it, do use caution as it is a banjo bolt. It doesn't need to be super tight, just snug.
ok so i decided to plug the truck up last night just to see if that would change anything even though its not cold outside, i started it at 8 am and i started it at 4.. both times it didnt hesitate at all, lift pump kicked right on, didnt crank long, nothing... any ideas why?
Just guesing here, I had a similar issue with a otr-truck, if you plugged it in over night you have heat working in your favor, all parts expanded inspect-replace o-rings, snug up any loose fuel lines. As RAWilliams said snug the lines, helps from spending more $ less ur changing the lines ta-boot.
mine use to start like that when i parked the nose uphill, if it was level or backed up the driveway fired fine evertime. like RA said, it was my return bolt on the back of the head leaking off. dont know if your parking on a hill or not but that made a difference on mine
