Injection Pump??? HELP!
 

Ok so my truck has been acting up bad and my check engine light came on. I took it in and had a computer diagnostic put on it and it came back saying that the computer on my injection pump is failing. I was gonna look into just replacing the pump but I've had friends tell me it's my fuel pump but I don't know... I've also heard it's bad injectors.
Here's my symptom:

When I shift out of first and into any gear above that, my truck de-fuels at 2k RPM's. At least it feels like de-fueling. When it hits 2k it cuts out and loses all power, it even killed itself once. If it is my injection pump I know it's gonna be expensive... does anyone know where i can get one for cheaper or a refurbished one or something along those lines? I was considering selling the truck so I want to do it right.

Did you check for codes? Mine went out last year but I can't remember the code, it's 16??. I got a rebuilt one from Diesel Auto Power. Great people and they shipped it fast. What I really liked was that they don't charge for core unless you don't return the old one within 30 days. It cost me $970. Sounds like a lot of money but after shopping around, it was the best deal I could find from a repedable dealer. Some people sell rebuilt VP44s cheaper but be careful and ask if they test them. Apparently, these test benches are real expensive and there aren't that many around. You might also check with Thoroughbred Diesel. Good luck

it could be your lift pump failing... same thing happend to my truck, would de fuel and then it died. found out it was a bad lift pump and i put an air dog on it. if you take it to a dealer or a shop they can most likely tell you what failed. Aftermarket lift pump is $400 and rebuilt injec pump is $990. i wouldnt worry about he injectors being the cause. its definatly a pump

Fuel pressure gauge. Get it on after the lift pump... even a cheap-ass AutoZone one will work... If she drops below 7psi the Lift Pump may be your problem

honestly you dont need a FP guage, if the trucks not getting fuel and the lift pump isnt going on then you know what the problem is

Rollincoal99 you are stupid to tell him he dont need a fuel guage,any VP44 truck needs a fuel guage. Hope you got one fill out your sig. You should know if your on here that these trucks are fuel pressure sensitive.:argh:

P1689 No Communication Between ECM And VP44 is the code i'm getting
Now it won't even de-fuel, it just stalls at 1500RPM and stays there, its really annoying, just bogs out right there and stays

1689 = vp's electronics are fried. You need a pump.

Do you need a FP gauge per se? No.

Do you need to monitor your FP? If you don't like wasting money the answer is, yes.

Why the semantics? Some lift pump solutions, like AirDog, allow you to purchase a warning LED kit that is triggered only below certain pressures. If you don't want to know that your pressure is 13.25 but DO care if it drops below say, 10psi this could be a workable solution for you.

There is no way, that I know of, to extend the lifespan of these expensive pumps without making sure you are getting adequate fuel pressure.
