Default Truck does not go over about half throttle

I have a 98.5 24 valve. Starts and runs great except whenitt gets to about half throtttle it falls on its face. Looses power also the tach does not work. If you feather the throttle it will get up to speed but if you lay into it, it just won't go. When you let off a little it takes off. Any ideas?

Sounds like the APPS (accelerator pedal position sensor) is going. You can attempt to re-adjust it, but it'll likely fall out of spec again.

As far as codes I haven't had it read yet but plan on that tomorrow just trying to get an idea. Can I test the apps?

Would the crank sensor cause it to only go about half throttle for lack of a better explanation?

If the sensor is tired it may be failing at higher rpms. Have you scanned the truck, should have logged a code

If the CPS failed, it would've sent the truck into limp mode. AKA, the truck wouldn't have enough power to pull you know what off a pot. Also, the CEL would've come on.
