Manual transmission fluid?
I has me a 98.5 dodge 3500 with the 5 speed. I need to know what is a capable fluid to fill the tranny, something that doesn't cost 25 dollars a quart, and what store to find it in. Any suggestions?

I'm not sure on the fluid but I'm thinking you have to had a mopar additive, it at just be on autos

You really need to put suncromesh back in. I put 75/90 gear oil in mine and a snycro went out. I rebuilt the transmision and put syncromesh in and havent had any problems.I got the oil at a dealer, but ive seen it in parts stores for 11 bucks a quart.

I've heard about the syncromesh, been meaning to add it. Now you say you got the oil at the dealer, specifically what oil? 75/90? Would synthetic be a benefit?
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- Also, once a syncro starts to go, will the syncromesh fix the scratching everynow and then, or will the syncro need to be replaced? I've rebuilt manuals, just don't want to have to on my daily driver. And if I'm doing that, might as well replace the clutch (again) but put in a ceramic disc so it'll stand up a little better. |
syncromesh is the way to go:tu:

No. Put Amsoil in. Its much cheaper and just as good as the dealer stuff. And there is no additive for either the manual or auto transmissions. Just change the oil.

Thanks I'll look into that

I started running Royal Purple Syncromesh in mine and it shifts a lot smoother over the oil you get from the dealership

5 speed...NV4500. The GL-4 gear lube is what it calls for. Sounds like some like the synchromesh stuff? I can't recommend it but I can sell it :)
Not even close to 25/qt either. I'll pm you a price for laughs and giggles:jump: |
