How do you know when you have the "Death Wobble?"
 

I just turned 200k on my truck. I just got back from a 600 mile trip. I know that i need the front end aligned but how do you know when you have the Death Wobble? I have replaced the Trac bar twice, and all my ball joints and tie rods are tight.:humm:

You know when you have it as you get the violent shakes in the steering and front end usually after hitting a bump. Usually you have to almost come to a stop to make it go away. The most common cause after making sure that your front end is all tight and in good shape is tires. Either out of balance or they are bad and need replaced.

If you have to ask you haven't had it. I've not had it on one of these rigs, only the tag axle on a Peterbilt. There was NO question what was going on and not fun in any way, shape or form. :scare2: :scare2:

I have had it on my 2001!and totally agree with the above!!!shook so hard my lovely dash broke to pieces!!!! went across 2 lanes of traffic,stopped and cleaned my drawers out!!! it always began on the highway above about 70mph,usually started when i went across a bridge.

HRD- that truck was shakin worse than a fag eatin' weiners at a hot dog stand!!! holy crap! yeah mine has never ever done that!! whew!!! :s:

I had the death wobble in my Jeep every now and again when hitting the brakes or a bump....not fun :scare2:

Jeeps get it just as bad if not worse than Dodges :ouch:

Rooster, if you have some play in the sterring wheel thats normal. These trucks never get tight, perfect steering. If you have already replaced your front end, add a steering box brace and that will help with the play. :c:

Would this also fix the steering jumping a bit after hitting a bump at highway speeds?

I've got brand new toyo 33's with new rims mounted and balanced and brand new front end work done.
