tranmission problem just had it built

Hey guys i have a 99 dodge i just had the transmission built with triple disc converter billet input shaft valve body all new clutchs.. the problem im haven now is if i Floor it running from roll at 45 55 mph its kicks out of lock up from 4th to 3rd and redlines and seem like its not pullin like its free reving.. I called my transmission guy took it to him we test drove it he goes thats not right it shouldn;t do that he says its nothing he done he said the lock up and 4th to 3rd all computer controlled he said I needed someone to get into my ECM and tune my transmission does that sound right to you all ? and who would do that kind of tuning ???? Someone help me out cause kind of confused and need to get something done about it thanks !!

did they readjust your tv cable when they reinstalled it?

01ISX 12-29-2011 12:21 PM

Well yeah .. it bang through the gears awesome .. like i said on here what he told me its in the ECM that lock up and 4th to 3rd all computer telling it what to do .. from what info out of him ..

MillerBoyzDiesel 12-29-2011 12:30 PM

nah I dont beleive that. Ive built several and never heard or seen a need to go into ecm for anything. sounds like gov. press. not set right or tv cable mis adjusted something like that

NadirPoint 12-29-2011 12:40 PM

Assuming it shifted right when you drove it away from the transmission shop, I'd say probably your "transmission guy" is blowing smoke up your arse. :humm:

01ISX 12-29-2011 06:31 PM

well dang hhmmmm Hey Miller where in Ky are you at ?? if ur close by i'll come see u and see what you think ?

MX02 12-29-2011 08:05 PM

I would agree with miller boys.I build transmissions and if the TV/kickdown cable is misadjusted or if the return spring has been left off can cause high throttle valve pressure. This will affect upshift timing and firmness can make it feel as if a shift kit has been installed with later upshifts. It can also cause a trans to downshift too far seeming like a neutral condition example shifting down to 2nd when it only should have downshifted to 3rd.

01ISX 12-29-2011 09:42 PM

I know the cable is adjusted right.. Where is the Return spring at that im lookin ?

MX02 12-29-2011 10:12 PM

The return spring is located on the TV lever at the trans and usually attached to a bracket on the left side of the bellhousing to return the lever.

well the spring is there .. This guy has built alot of dodge's transmissions i just dont get it .

MillerBoyzDiesel 12-30-2011 06:38 AM

Im in harrodsburg ky.

tworks 12-30-2011 06:52 AM

im with Miller...sounds like rpm governer comming on before trans is performing said shift???

MX02 12-30-2011 08:34 AM

Are all the upshifts clean/firm at various throttle openings? You also said valve body was it replaced or a shift kit put in? Lastly did you get any sort of a warranty from the guy who built it?

wccornelius72 01-01-2012 09:22 PM

I recently bought mine with a built trans and it is doing the exact same thing I have tried adjusting the cable and it only got worse when I adjusted it so it is maxed out in the position that I have it in. NO warranty for me since I didn't have the trans rebuilt :s:

01ISX 01-02-2012 09:17 PM

So your haven the Same problem wccorne ? Im trying to get to the bottom of it.. I'll let u know soon i find something out ... im still hearing that has to do with the ECM .. even JIM jessup said there a program to tune it but he dont wanna mess with it or have time..

bristoy 01-03-2012 11:08 PM

i agree w/those saying the tv cable is not set right.when i got my trans done i did the removal & istall myself.the trans shop instead i bring the truck to them& the first thing he did was check & adjust the setting for it.if it's not set right you could burn up the clutches in no time because the line pressure wont be correct.sounds like miller boyz is familiar w/it. be good to have someone else look at it.
