Camshaft sensor

I replaced my camshaft sensor the other day thinking it might be bad. I disconnected the plug to see if the symptoms changed before I bought a new sensor, nothing changed. I went out, bought a new sensor and installed it, still same symptoms with the new sensor. My question is this, if the motor runs exactly the same with the sensor plugged in vs. Not plugged in, whats the point of having it at all, or does this mean something with the wiring of the camshaft sensor is off? Any help would be greatly appreciatedm

i am no expert ( there is my disclaimer) haha! my i was under the impression if the camshaft sensor goes out the engine will die. in the 01 that i had i had the crankshaft sensor go out and it would still run but in intermittantly would have no tach and the turbo would nout spool. they look identical just different location.

What are the symptoms related to the engine? If the wiring is bad, then three will be no difference if it is plugged in or not.
