Automatic trans

I totalled my truck this last summer, and am now looking to get a new one. I am looking at an 01 cummins with 169,000 miles on it. I would love to have another manual but can not find any. The pick up I am looking at has an auto. I have always heard that dodge does not make a good auto. Any imput would help.

upgrade torque convertor and valve body from what i hear and you should be good.

All depends on the power your looking to push. A stock truck that doesn't pull will have long transmission life usually. Start adding power or loads and longevity is reduced.

if your gonna keep it stock or just add mild mods the auto's are ok.but if your going to add any significant amount of power you'll have to up grade the trans.for a decently built trans w/triple disk converter your looking at spending somewhere near $2500-3000 &up grading to billit shafts will cost even more.

try 6k for triple disk conv, valve body, billit input, and rebuild plus labor.
