wont start after fuel filter change

I had an earlier posy about spitting and sputtering and was told to try changing the fuel filter. I did that and primed it a couple time with fuel in the filter bowl. It started right up, died and now wont start.
Please help

I'm pretty sure you got air in the lines. Best way to bleed it out is to crack open the lines, have someone crank the pickup til you see diesel flow. I can't say for sure but I think it's the #1, #3, and #4 injectors that you crack open. Only do them one at time though.

Here, I found this for you. It'll explain things alot better than I did.

2nd Generation Dodge Cummins - Reprime The Fuel System

Good Luck

i tried that and no fuel came out. I even cracked the top of the in line to the fuel filter bail and no fuel there either. any other ideas?
:argh:

Does it still crank over like it wants to start?

randy k 11-10-2011 02:13 PM

yes it cranks fine

K, what I've done when this happens to me is the following:
1. Get an old rag and pour gasoline on it.
2. Open your air box and insert the rag into the intake tube.
3. Have someone crank the pickup while you're holding the rag. HANG ON TO THE RAG, WHATEVER YOU DO DON'T LET IT GO!!
Now, the pickup may not crank on the first time around so only crank it for about twenty seconds or so. Don't over do it or you'll drain your battery and possibly screw your starter. Once it does start, have the person inside throttle the pickup up to 1200 rpms so it doesn't die again. It will idle hard for the first couple of minutes but it'll go away. After all this, close your air box back up and drive it around for a few minutes so it'll get all the air out.

I don't know if this is very healthy for our pickups but it's always worked for me, crossing my fingers for you man.

are you still running the stock style lift pump? Mine went out without me knowing it and when i changed the fuel filter it wouldn't fill the fuel bowl and wouldn't start at all. And before i changed it, it was spitting and sputtering every now and then

randy k 11-10-2011 06:05 PM

yes its the original lift pump. been on from when i bought 278,000 miles ago.
Time to change it? what should i put back in it?

Turns out it was the Lift pump. Got her running, put the Edge power booster back in and is running like a top! :jump:

Thanks for every ones help :c:
