Lift pump suggestions???

Ive got a 99 24v with a few goodies. (banks high ram, banks exhaust, hx35/40, Edge Juice w/attitude) The truck has 260k on it. From what I can tell after cleaning of some mud is the lift pump on it says FASS HPFP. The problem is at about 1/2-3/4 throttle fuel pressure drops below 10, 8, as low as 5. Im not sure what injectors are in the truck either. (only had the truck for 3 weeks) I really don't want to buy a new VP44 anytime soon so any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I was looking at the Raptor 150... is that gonna be sufficient?

Raptor 150 will work great.

Will I need to drop the tank? Or will the Raptor go directly in place of the FASS? Thanks

The raptor will mount on the frame rail.

Ok perfect, so the "draw straw" should already be in the tank from the current pump? Thanks for your help Luke

I would suggest replacing your stock draw tube.

The thought running through my head is why isn't the FASS doing its job? Has the fuel filter been changed? You could contact FASS and see if they could replace/repair your current pump.

your could have a weak spring in the pump, as mentioned above a dirty fuel filter, or other issue. Check the simple problems before you spend money that may not be needed

Sorry I read the original post wrong. I was thinking about the DDRP not the HPFP.

Sounds like a bad spring or a weak pump

That pump has a I think

That pump has a fine screen filter in the inlet banjo bolt mine did the same thing, had blackbuild up restrickting fuel flow.I agree that checking the entire fuel system on any older truck bigger pick up tube etc. is very good.I also drilled out the holes in the bolt for the heck of it.My fass ddrp stays just above 11psi. 3/4 throttle on stock motor.

i have the airdog 150 and was wondering how and if you can just clean the filters and the best way to do it

shakenbake 10-19-2011 10:44 PM

Thanks for all the suggestions. I think I'm gonna do some digging around under the truck. I don't want to condemn the pump yet, it holds 17 psi at idle. Don't really wanna pony up the $400 yet eiter.:nope:

were can i get the fuel filter and how much does it cost

Just pulled the lines off from the FASS and didn't see a screen type filter anywhere. I'm gonna swap out the fuel filter tomorrow with a fleetguard and rule that out. Is it possible the overflow valve on the injection pump is causing this pressure drop. I pulled it out and cleaned it up. Nothing noticably wrong. Is there a way to test it? Thanks to all

That is very possible. They don't cost too much, and could be a cheap, quick fix.

Well I swapped out the fuel filter tonight, got her fired back up, and surprise surprise idle pressure is now at 20. Took it for a drive and WOT goes no less than 15. Thanks RAW for the fuel filter suggestion, just saved me $400. :jump:

I'm glad it was a cheap fix, and your back up and running. :c:

Give FASS's tech dept a call. They seem to be able to figure most stuff out easily. Did the filter change work?? 636-433-5410
