Cutting out/ No Codes
2001 Cummins SCLB 4x4 5 speed completely stock
It cuts out to idle and gives me a dead pedal for a a second and come right back then does it again. It doesn't do it at any certain rpm, but it doesn't do it during acceleration from a stop. Just when i'm going down a highway or straight road for a while. It has never died and when it cuts out it just idles. It seems like it only does it when it warms up. I checked the codes with the key trick and nothing has ever come up, and the check engine doesn't come on when it acts up. I replaced the apps but absoluley no change. i don't have a fuel pressure gauge but i'm going to pick one up tonight. Please help lol |
Is the apps set to the right voltage? the pedal doesn't go dead for more than a second or 2? more than likely apps needs manual adjustment.

i havent adjusted it manually, i wasn't even aware you could do that until right after i put this post up. It was doing the exact same thing before i replaced the apps, does that matter
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- yes the pedal only goes out for maybe a second then comes back like nothing happened then goes out again |
So you replaced the APPS already?
You do a APPS reset when you installed the new APPS. |
it's you turbo20- give him the link :D

APPS Reset Procedure
This procedure has shown to help 24 valve ISB engines. It is basically teaching the fly by wire accelerator on these trucks to reread the position of the pedal and it's limits. Most complaints this will help with is poor acceleration, improper shifting, bucking in 5 and 6 speeds. Has been known to increase fuel mileage in some instances. 1. Set parking brake 2. Disconnect negative battery cables on both batteries 3. Turn ignition key to run(to drain any remaining capacitors) 4. Let truck sit for 30 minutes( this is the recommended minimum) 5. Return ignition to OFF position 6. Reconnect both batteries and secure, not a timed event 7. Turn key to run position(not start) and depress accelerator pedal slowly all the way to the floor 8. Allow pedal to return to top position slowly 9. Turn ignition switch OFF 10.Release parking brake :tu: |
i did the apps reset last night and i've driven it about 30 miles so far and i haven't noticed anything. My knuckles are bruised from all the knocking on wood i'm doing. I'm still getting a fuel pressure gauge to keep an eye on my lift pump and IP. Any install tricks or best locations for it?

I had this same issue a couple weeks ago and it turned out to be my ground cables where they terminate at the batteries, both felt good and tight in the beginning, but the problem kept getting worse til it finally died on me and I found them to be loose the in crimp. Also knocking on wood here but i got them tightened down good and all seems well so far. Good luck.

i've been considering the raptor that mounts on the frame under the cab, a buddy told me about it and looked it up. How far will the 100 gph get me? if i replace the turbo and get a chip and injectors will i need 150? and if thats the case can i run the 150 stock and add the mods over time
