overboost

I realize I got ahead of myself with the 150 HP injectors. Lookin for advice please don't give me Hell for it. Anyways I installed a bd performance boost elbow and got about 10 more psi. Pushing about 28-30 psi. I put the injectors in and I've got a 35 psi gauge. That baby is Maxed out now. I'm scared to stay in the throttle very long(WOT). What would Yall do in my shoes?:argh:

if your little elbow has an allen screw in it you can tighten it down a little. should drop boost a fuzz. stay at 32-35 on the stock turbo. may try it without the elbow all together but it will prolly drop it to far for your likeing. give it a whirl.

Yea its not adjustable. Just wanna back it off 5 psi or so. Seems simple but it ain't ya know :dang:

Just until I can't afford a better turbo of course.:rocking:

D-LUX 10-12-2011 09:56 PM

the elbow you have on it has a smaller orifice inside it to cut down on the pressure getting to the waste gate correct? if so step up the sized hole using a drill one size at a time until you get the pressure you want.

gd1996 10-12-2011 09:57 PM

I'd get a gauge that reads higher and have some fun :rocking: Of course within reason.

turbo2332 10-12-2011 10:30 PM

dont make the hole bigger that will make more boost. dont go higher till your engine can stay together and your turbo doesnt eat itself

01_cummins 10-12-2011 10:38 PM

i have a hx35 on my HO cummins and i have almost 400,000 miles on her with one head gasket replaced i have my waste gate held shut and i push 40ish thru it on a good stomp and never had much trouble.....buuuuuut that was about 80,000 hard miles ago and now im paying for it thru my turbo shelling so it may work ok for a while but don't run the dog s*** out of her and id say it wouldn't be the end of the world but thats just me hope it helps

Umm no that is incorrect it will allow more pressure to go through to open the wastegate. Thus reducing boost levels.:c:

If you don't want to increase the size of the hole then go to ebay and buy you an adjustable boost elbow, I believe they run 20 bones or so.:tu:

Something of this nature>http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/adjus...item2c5fe10c4e

turbo2332 10-13-2011 08:06 AM

nothing goes through the wastegate other than exhaust gasses. there is a spring and diapram in there that is boost sensitive so a bigger hole makes the turbo work harder to create the same pressure at the gate if there is a hole in the line.
if you have an air tank with a hole in it just a small one, you can get it to 20psi but never with just 20 psi in the compressor. you would have to throw 25 or 28 or something to push enough air fast enough to overcome the hole in the tank. same idea with the boost elbow, your putting a hole in the line so your compressor (turbo) makes more air to get the psi high enough in the intake to open the wastegate. so a bigger hole would just make your situation worse because your turbo would be working that much harder to over come an even bigger hole in the tank. hope that makes sence.

GuyWithA24Valve 10-13-2011 09:43 AM

The wastegate is actuated by the boost made by the compressor side of the turbo. Making the hole bigger will allow the wastegate to open sooner. If the elbow has a allen screw in it, turning it in will increase the boost psi.

turbo2332 10-13-2011 10:39 AM

UGH its no use. your first sentence is right on the money the second sounds like a 2nd grader said it.

if the waste gate

open sooner it = less boost
open later it = more boost.

D-LUX 10-13-2011 04:36 PM

check yourself before you wreck yourself... opening up the hole will drop the pressure the wastegate opens at.. it is VERY simple

probably shouldn't have the name turbo seeing you don't know the simplest component of a turbo, D-LUX is right, it's very simple... you're a douche :tu:

ow guys ow...

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

just put the stock elbow back on there. lets us know if you get less or more boost. we will continue this then.

hahahaha i think ive pictured the elbow you have so veagly discribed. one side of the elbow is big like normal and the wastegate side is very small??? is this correct? if so than on that particular elbow by all means drill it out one size at a time. that will make it open faster. it will equalize faster with more similar sized holes. the elbows i mess with have an actual 3rd hole venting to the atmosphere making that hole bigger will have the adverse effect, discribed above. ahhhhhhh -goooose fraaabaaaaaa- i hope that is what you guys were getting at so you all can quit bashing and start helping this guy learn.

cumminscwby 10-13-2011 08:25 PM

Give me day or so. I'll drill it out and see how it goes.

gd1996 10-14-2011 01:08 AM

Theres a seller in CA on ebay that has the elbows for 11.95 and like 3 to ship. So, 15 bucks and your good to go.

crazycooter 10-14-2011 11:49 PM

put together a sweet little hx35/40 hybrid. did mine with parts from ebay and BAE for a little over $300, she spools up a lot quicker than my stock hx35. and like you, I back out of her at about 35 psi, not knowing quite what my head bolts will really contain. Also, I don't even have a wastegate anymore, and it doesn't seem to be an issue.:w2:
