Engine Oil

:humm:i just changed oil in my 2002 5.9 i used Mag1 15w40 this time because its hard to get ahold of Valvoline Premium blue 15w40 like i used to use and we run Mag1 at work in the rigs...the factory oil pressure gauge seems to be reading lower than it did with the valvoline, any ideas? my manual says CF-4 is the oil for my truck but i read that CJ-4 exceeds CF-4 and the mag1 is CJ-4 i am changing to a different oil since the valvoline is hard to get ahold of in my area. what oil do you guys run in your trucks, and what does your oil pressure gauge read at idle and at normal driving rpm? thanks in advance

I agree Valvoline is hard to get ahold of now, I ran that for years with a K&N oil filter and could see 4000+ miles without even a change in color... Now I run the Shell Rotella T, alot of guys local to me swear by it... but I don't pay attention to oil pressure, I just know it's never changed much on me but I can't remember the numbers for the life of me :c: ...have another one

I also run Rotella T6, got is for $14/gal last month at walmart (Coupon on every jug) I noticed a slight increase in Pressure at startup but when at operating temp it is normal. No clue what was in my truck before, have only had it for 3 months. I imagine whatever the jiffy lube special was when the old guy who owned it before me had it done.

One of my friends runs Conklin Synthetic he buys off of a farmer by the 55gal drum in his 12valve, 24 valve, and tractors.

Amsoil 5w-30 year round. You get better fuel mileage out of it also

well oil pressure is related to resistance and this oil may flow a little better than what you were running. Also cj-4 is low e oil so if you can find some ci-4 oil it will have more zinc and phosphorus. I myself like the amsoil diesel and marine oil. I run it all year with no issues. But synthetics have better cold flow ratings than non synthetics.

I use the diesel and marine too, but that 5/30 is a great product. Nice to see others using it. You'll never have a problem plus your probably are getting a mile or two gain out of it.
