build 47re or swap for nv4500?
I'm really debating this... I unfortunatly was just a day late on a local complete nv4500 swap setup that was for sale... but the costs of rebuilding/beefing the 47re is pretty high, I'm wondering if I'm not better off just throwing the 5 spd in it. I'm sure it's alot of work but my question is will it pay off in the long run? It's not like I'm planning on making 500hp anytime soon, so I'm not really looking for an easy way out, just a good reliable alternative I can still have some fun with. Opinions appreciated :tu:

I would go with the 5 speed it will be cheaper in the long run.

Ive had both and dealt with problems of both, if your not gonna go big on hp get a 5sp, if your gonna go over 500hp id say an automatic, JMOP

To me its personal preference and I absolute hate autos... so without a doubt I'd go 5 speed.

I heard back from the guy today, he has another complete swap setup ready to go for $2800, waiting to hear back on some more specifics... feelings on that price? it's a little out of what I can manage RIGHT NOW but I know he moves this stuff quick.

a built auto is my vote a properly built auto will take anything you can throw at it. my dad had a 99 he sold and it was on 5spd #4 and only thing done was edge juice with attitude and rv 275's.

Yeah I told him no, 1 the price is way out of my league and 2, like you said, I'd still have to build that up if I wanted more power... Looks like I'll be ordering Goerend triple disc converter and valve body asap. That should be all I need for now, right?

Ha, I hear ya... all it's doing at this point is shuttering. I know my 3-4 solenoid is bad too so I still have the hunting issue. The tranny in the truck is a Mopar reman unit done in early '07, the tranny was BRAND NEW when I got the truck from the dealer back then and it's never seen any hard use, just the abuse of a heavy right foot :hellox: and I'm hoping that will help me make another couple thousand miles till I have the money for what I need. I stopped hammering on it, too.... finally.
