White/Grey smoke??

2001 3500. Has K&N intake, Fuel, Boost, EGT all that good stuff. Has stock lift pump which is working. Has steady 12psi. Has Superchip Flashpaq. I havent been driving the truck that long so I dont know how long its been going on. I just noticed it a week or so ago. First off, the truck runs and performs great. Oil and coolant levels are good. Now what is going on is upon start up engine seems a little more rattly than normal. No miss no smoke(except puff of black when fisrt started). Take off down the road and I get normal clouds of black smoke as Im goin through gears. Later on while cruising, around the same time as operating temp comes up the sound of the engine will change. Clatter goes away and engine quietens down. Exhaust has more of a drone too it. Now when all of this happens my previous black smoke turns to a whitish grey. Still only smokes when commanded. None at idle or cruising. Only when romping on it. No loss of power either(actually feels a little stronger). Boost pressure, fuel pressure everything like that stays the same. Any ideas?

I have been kicking around maybe an injector or possibly it is the superchips timing advancement peaking when temp comes up? Dont really think its a head gasket. Im not losing any coolant and the smoke is only there when I mash on it like any other time except its different colors. The exhaust dont smell like coolant either. Just wanted to get some opinions. Thanks.

PS I replaced engine in truck with an engine that had 74,000 miles on it back in the winter. Trucks original VP was used because replacement didnt have one so VP has 478,000 mile on it. Maybe VP takin a dump?

any codes? white/grey smoke if it stings your nose sort of say is raw fuel, unlike black smoke which is partially burnt grey and white if not coolant or oil is raw fuel. more than likely an injector issue, could be the vp though, i've seen a truck where the vp took a dump and it rolled grey smoke idling.

if no codes i'd think about getting the injectors tested first.

someone may have a simpler test to chime in with but that's what i'd think.

if it only smokes under load maybe boost leak also is an idea?

I think the engine quieting down has to do with how the tune on the Flashpaq works. I have the flashpaq on my truck and after about 4 miles of steady highway cruising, the injectors quiet down. I figure its just from the lack of the need of fuel. I'm not sure on everything else but i just figured i would throw that in there

Re: White/Grey smoke??

Adjust the valves, verify fuel filter condition. Usually contribute these symptoms to failing vp!
Loose that k&n if you like your current turbo lol

X2 on the K&N. I got rid of mine because it never seemed to be clean, and the oil was starting to coat the inside of the intake tube and the vanes on the compressor wheel
