Tranny trouble?

01 QC 4x4 only upgrades are exhaust and Air Dog. While cruising at a steady speed rpms will bounce around like 1/4 or more at a time, this is happening more often. Then had a major spike in rpm while cruising around 45 mph it was like I hammered on the pedal but of course that wasn't the case. I have had the APPS replaced with an aftermarket from Genos Garage not sure if that could be causing this too. Truck has right around 97,000 miles. Thanks for any help

Does it act like its hunting for fourth gear?

jd5 09-05-2011 08:44 AM

I've got an '01 with 180k miles and mine does the exaaaaaaact same thing. Between about 40-50 miles an hour and thats what it seems like its doing is trying to decide what gear it wants. Big problem or little problem?

baddodges 09-05-2011 08:58 AM

I have the fix for that. Pm me your email and I will send it to you.torque posted it on here last week its called the 4th gear hunt fix.if you can't find it on here let me know and id be happy to send it to you.

It doesn't seem like it's searching for a gear, it was doing that before I changed the APPS. Now it's just the rpms bouncing around for no reason.

Its the Torque Converter Locking and Unlocking.

A DTT noise filter will fix this problem.

What the heck is a DTT noise filter and how hard is it to install? Thanks

A apps reground helps sometimes

TORQUE 09-05-2011 07:27 PM

When mine did it the rpms didn't really bounce around though. I could just feel the converter locking in and out constantly - or maybe I just didn't notice the rpms...

bought a noise isolator so I hope that helps. If not I'll be doin tranny work I guess.

I wouldn't sweat it. The worst case scenario is what happened to me... basically couldn't solve the problem (did everything you read about) and eventually truck started throwing 0753 and 1765 codes, which means tc clutch solenoid is wasted and the HD kit is $250
