1999 wont start in warm weather??
A friend is having a wierd issue with his truck so I thought I'd post a question about it. This is a stock '99 3/4 ton cummins, starts just fine if its cold enough for the grid heater to cycle but as soon as it warms up or is just plain hot outside.......no start, cranks over fine just no fuel.
The dodge dealer is blaming the ECM and they could very well be right but to me this problem screams simple problem, bad ground, undervolt to the VP, fuel draining out of the VP. Sounds kinda like this, https://www.dieselbombers.com/24-val...-no-start.html Thanks |
i know this isnt about your topic but i saw in your sig you have the edge ez i was wondering how you like it and if it throws good smoke.

sounds like a classic vp44 going out
thats exactly what mine was doing before i changed it i could only drive the truck once a day and thats if the tempature was below 50*F |
bad VP and or change lift pump and might save its life, either way if it has a stock lift pump recomended to be changed
|
Generally hard starts when warm are caused by a cracked diaphragm in the VP44. Hope its something else though.

Yea for what it is the EZ is a good box, definently helps the lower rpm's alot, doesnt smoke much but it will a little if you try. Just a trick that I do with the edge boxes like the EZ if you leave the mapp sensor unplugged the edge fuels at low boost harder yet, a little more grunt and smoke. Looks like there might be bad news for my buddy huh. |
