removing shifter knob

I've been thinking about changing out my shifter knob and just wondering if its just supposed to spin off lefty? I've taken shifter knobs off on other vehicles and it came off easy and I've tried with mine and it seems like it doesn't want to turn off, and I am worried about breaking something wrenching too hard on it trying to twist it off. Sorry for a dumb question, I tried looking in my haynes and it just said remove shifter knob, not twist or pull or anything like that.

Thanks in advance

It's been awhile but I'm thinking mine had a nut under the shift pattern

Do you just pop off the shift pattern like a cover with qa small flat blade screw driver?

I believe so, a small screwdriver or an oring pick should work just fine. My Dodge service manual say nothing about how to remove it, at all!

Depending on either you want to keep the OEM one to have around and if its any thing like the X-case shift knob run a straight blade up the the narrow part slide the that cover off and its a nut w standard threads.

they say you can take that shift pattern out without wrecking it or the knob. i don't believe that. i wrecked my knob trying to figure it out.

the knob itself is a softer plastic. the shift pattern button is a rigid plastic that is about 3/8" thick. the knob has a groove in it that receives a little lip from the shift pattern. that groove is towards the bottom of the shift pattern button.

basically, remove that button, and there is a M10 nut under it. loosen that and the knob spins off easy peesy, but i will impressed if you can without damaging it, lol.

Yeah I almost got it without hurtin the knob and then got carried away and messed it up, then went to take the nut off and the whole shifter turned instead. So I boogered it up with channel locks holding it to break the nut loose.
