Tow Mirrors
 

So I got the original tow mirrors on my 2001 2500. I tried to adjust them (manual everything mirrors) and they wont move a budge. I broke the passenger side mirror already trying to get it to move. Any one ever have this problem before or know what might fix it? Thanks :c:

I have seen a set that was right seized as well, they were also factory mirrors. We didn't go as far as breaking them, but will be breaking them down to try and see if we can lube anything.

Did you just buy new ones and put them on, and they wont move? Or you have ones from the factory and they are seized up?

i assume that they are the factory mirrors.

Yea there factory. The guy I got the truck from said with whole heart.... In 2001 they dident make moveable tow mirrors. A one size fits all. But it's ok I used that fact to get the price down some lol

They didnt make POWER towing mirrors till the 3rd gen trucks. you can get them aftermarket now, I put on a set from one of the sponsors here. not a bad upgrade, but they dont angle in or down near as far as the stock ones so they are okay at best and they shake very badly if there is a crosswind or its bumpy.

Now back to your mirrors.... the construction of the stock towing mirrors is a plastic on plastic ball & Joint socket. they collect dust and get seized over time. I broke several and found out you cant get replacement glass for them...or couldn't then anyway. I made a poster-board template and took it to a local glass shop and had them cut several pieces of mirror for me (replacements for now and replacements for the future.) as for the adjustment... there is a product called Fluid-Film that is available at all John-Deere dealerships that works awesome for plastic on plastic contact surfaces. it is an aerosol product and is between 8-12 dollars a can depending on your region. it has a ton of other uses as well, and is great as a rust preventive coating. The main active ingredient is lanolin. Hope this helps.

This Fluid Film do you just give a good blast behind the part that holds the glass till it frees up?

I bought a set of KoolVue electric /heated towing mirrors for my 01 2500 cummins.they are stable but you have to use the mounting studs from the oem mirriors,the studs that come with them are to short. I have yet to wire them,too busy now probably in the fall:c:
