Code Scanner

Had a problem with my rig, trouble code came up and I checked it with my Autozone scanner. Started changing parts, P0720 wheel speed sensor. Didn't help, took it to a shop and their scanner picked up a bad sensor, vehicle speed sensor.

Question
If my scanner doesn't pick up the codes, which scanner should I get?
Cost is important.

The question is which scanner do you have right now? I know if you get a smarty it has a scanner in it. It also has mucho power as well. :choochoo: Just tell the significant other you're just getting it for the code scanner :U:

The Smarty is by far the best code reader for our trucks. I have one that I had listed in the classifieds, but decided to keep it just for reading/clearing codes.

I have an Actron Scanner that I purchased fron PepBoys a few years ago. I was told by a shop and the dealership that i doesn't pickup all the codes. They said this after charging me $130 to inspect and write a cost estimate for repairs. Am I being suckered?

No scanner on the open market will read all of the codes. The Dodge dealers reserve that right for only their own equipment. Even Cummins shops can't read all of the codes. This is why Cummins won't even work on the newer Dodge trucks. They got tire of workin with their hands tied behind their backs and finally said no more. They will still work on 2nd gen trucks though.

Here is a scanner that is much more than JUST a scanner...

Trip computer, Scan tool, and live data stream information from the ECM...

I paid ~$160 for my ScanGauge II much cheaper than a Smarty... Then on on top of that I can use my ScanGauge II in any ODB II vehicle on the road... Where Smarty is limit to Dodge Diesel and cost so much more ~$600
