how to tell and how to remove
On my buddy's 01 dually that he just bought he is having a problem with it falling on its face at 70 mph. we did find that the stock lift pump was failing so it now has a PPE lift pump on it, but still defueling hard at 70. is there a way to tell what programer was used on it and is there a way to remove the speed limiter without removing his power program? I wish i could use my S-06 smarty just to set it back to stock but don't want to jack up his truck or my smarty. any help would be great.

I wouldnt think the speed limiter wouldnt be set at 70 mph, factory is set at over 100, how do you know he has an aftermarket tune in it? If its falling on its face, it could be the VP44 going south, even a failing lift pump often times does take the VP44 with it. Have you checked for codes? Also, whats the fuel pressure to the VP?

we think it has a program in it because it will roll lots of smoke when you start up through the gears. also the truck pulls hard all the way to 70 mph then feels like the fuel just shuts off (Speed limiter) it doesn't spit or sputter at all on its way to 70.

Hat are the RPM"s at 70 MPh? If he has 410 gears, it may be defueling because of RPMs, not MPH's. If you want to revert back to srock software, any Dodge dealership should be able to do it.

it is no where near redline so that is what makes it so frustrating. would a smarty for that year model set it back to stock?
