It says holset on the front

Doesnt seem to be an hx35... center section and exhaust housing are weird.

I'd say HX40 before HX35. There isn't a tag on it? How about the wastegate, or is it MIA?

Re: Help me identify this turbo

Tag is painted over and the gate is mia

I'm thinking brice was right last night in chat, thats a semi turbo. but it does not look like any hx40 or hx35 I've ever seen. I have circle a couple things in the pic to explain myself a tad.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x...-7b23-f9fc.jpg

First off, the red, I did some more research since chat last night, I think brice is right, thats a direct internal waste gate housing. Not found on a stock 98.5 24 valve hx35. or any of the hx35s I've seen.

The Blue. look close at how the bearing house actually bolts to the exhaust housing. Its got a built in flange that bolts the two together. On a standard Hx35 or hx 40, there is no flange(ill get pics of both here in a minute.) Normally on a hx35 or hx40, there will be 2 pieces of steel that hold the two together.(pics to come)

The Green. If this was an hx35 that the gentleman told you originally came on the truck, he'd be wrong. 1 reason is the exhaust outlet. on 98.5 24 valve there is not v-band that bolts the down pipe directly to the exhaust housing. 2nd, to be a true hx40, it would have a 4 in not a 3 inch outlet. Could this be some type of hybrid, possibly. I'm going to go out and get some pics of the hx40 I have laying around and the hx35s for comparrison.

Simply put that is not a standard hx35...

as promised here are some pics of the parts i question:

the first is the 2 pieces of metal that normally hold the turbo together, the one on cody's truck does not have these.

The next pic is of a hx35 bearing housing aka center section. notice there is no flange to bolt to the exhaust housing as the one in cody's has.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x...-37-00_146.jpg

The next is of a true holset made HX40 bearing housing, notice they are identical to the hx35 as they use the exact same part numbered housing.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x...-35-35_945.jpg

The next 1 is from an hx35 exhaust housing, this is off a a 98.5 24 valve. It is striped but notice tthat it is smooth and no blocks like on codys.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x...-38-41_686.jpg

The next is the hx40 14cm housing. looks identical to the hx35 one just slightly larger. again, smooth and no blocks like on cody's.

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x...-38-32_633.jpg

next is of a he351, not mine, found on google, again not whats on cody's

http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x...Y35W-03-07.jpg

conclusion, the turbo on cody's truck is holset, but its not a hx35 or hx40. I don't actually know what it is but I'll go through the factory holset manuals I have again and see what I can find out for you cody
