new lift pump or intank pump
99 dodgeram 2500 with the 5.9 diesel, my lift pump is on the way out. I tow a 27 5er 8500 to 13000.
should I just go to the new in tank unit. thanks |
in my opinion NO if ur truck is basically stock then go with a fass dodge direct replacement pump or eliminate it with the high performance fuel pump from fass and use a draw straw to bypass the intank pump?
|
if you want to keep your injection pump and not have to keep replacing it don't get the in tank pump get a fass system and be done do not get a fass ddrp pump as it will not be enough. spend the money once and be done.
|
I agree with the above statement. Do it once, and do it right. The intank pump is probably the worst solution.

I talked to a local diesel shop today, they tell me that usually with 100,000 on the vp44 that installing a new higher pressure lift pump would likley result in the vp44 going bad.
There thoughts are that with previuos lift pump failure on the 1989 to 2000 that there likley was some damage to the pump. Also they tell me that with the new low sulfer fuel will not lubricate the vp44 enough and I should be using Stanadyne fuel additive. Does this sound like anything you have all heard? thanks |
i think the local shop is trying to bluff you. i don't see how adding a good lift pump will hurt the vp. my vp had 70,000 and i then added a fass system. still running to this day get a good lift pump and install it yourself so they don't try to stick u with a bunch of stuff you don't need. and yes it is a good thing to run a fuel lubricant.

I agree 100% with adding Stanadyne fuel additive. I do all the time to my truck. As for damaging the injection pump, I won't believe it. There is a 18PSI relief in your overflow valve, on the pump it's self. If they are trying to say that more then 10psi to the pump is going to hurt it, then they are calling Bosch a bunch of idiots.

Ok thanks for the input, I will order my Fass system tomorrow.

Using an additive that increases lubrication is a good thing. 2 Stroke oil is cheap. |
