Cigeratte Lighter Dont Work

well the top one does work but my radar detector is pluged in it. if i plug the radar detector into the bottom plug it gets enough juice for it to make a buzzin sound but thats it. i check the fuses and all that stuff, i dont know if any one has had this problem but it would be nice to be able to charge the cell phone when i forget my house charger

thanks

Sounds like just a bad connection. Have you pulled the socket and checked for a bad connection or melted wire?

Benjamin 11-27-2007 06:39 PM

it could be a fuse that is bad but not showing bad. those fillaments in these fuses can have a crack and when minimal current goes through them they will heat up and expand and break the connection. i had one inline with an amplifier that kicked my butt for an hour. it would read 12v until a load was on it and it would read 0v.... changed the fuse and it was good to go..... and the fuse looked like new.....

thanks for the fast replies:U: but i did change the fuse with a new one and it did the same thing. how do you go about pullin that thing out i have nver messed with one before and the pick up aint here its down at the house untill christmas break, need to save money so i am driven the samurai

you'll have to remove the part of the dash that the radio in in..... i haven't looked at a truck of that year closely but on mine there are a couple of screws and that piece snaps out and you can unplug it from the back.... my 96 is different..... look inside the plug/lighter thing and see if there is any rust on the center power thng inside the lighter. if it is you can pull the fuse to remove the power to it and try to scrape that rust off with a screwdriver..... might work might not.....

does anyone have a pic of that era of a dodge's dash? i can prolly walk you through it step by step if i could see one in person.....
