Fuel Filter Leaking
 

I have a 2001 Cummins, 2wd, Quad-cab SLT, all stock. My fuel pump is leaking from the bottom of the bowl where the electrical connector plugs into the bottom of the pump. My local garage says that Dodge is replacing the fuel pump mounted on the side of the engine with one that is located in the fuel tank. Problem I have with this solution, right now, is the cost. Any suggestions...is the original pump fixable (I had this unit replaced in 2003) or are there any after-market units available that don't have a $500+ price tag. I'm in between jobs right now and need to get this fixed as cheaply as possible...diesel fuel prices are getting to high to drop fuel on the road. Thanks for your feedback...

Putting it in the tank is about the worst thing you can do.

Hard to say if its fixable without seeing it. I doubt it though. Are you talking about the lift pump itself or the fuel filter housing?

You could go with another stocker for $100+ (not the best idea). Some of the Raptor pumps are ~$360 I think. But yes, the best fix is around $500

I have a used FASS DDRP02. I used it on my '01 for 12,000 miles and upgraded to a Raptor because it did not supply enough pressure when I had my Edge module on high. If you're planning to stay stock this would be an adequate pump, it bolts up to your factory location on the side of the engine and is an easy install. If interested you can send me an email.
