scanner code 1689

hooked up a scanner to my truck finally. the description said, ecm could not communicate with the injection pump module. after i scanned the truck i shut it off and restarted it two times and after the second startup the code and the check engine light went away. advice on how to proceed. im in dire need of a better lift pump cause the onei have is barely gettin me 12 psi to my pump. :scare2: as for the code though whats that mean? it sounds like a loose wire, which would be a godsend to me. :tu:

p1689 is usually a death code for the VP44, however, with yours going away, may check grounds for the ecm and your connections and see if that helps

____ wire grimlins. ill burn em all to ____! :bat::bat: at least if thats what the problem is.

I dont believe so.

P1688 and P2016 are usually considered the VP-44 death codes.

12 psi to your pump is plenty unless you have lots of performance mods. As already mentioned, I would check all the grounds on your truck. I believe there are 7 or 8 (cant remember tho')

thats because his code was 1689. which prolly means the ecm is dieing. if you have a downloader thats a good way to check and see if the ecm is going out it wont take the tune. i had one do that 3 years ago.

One thing i have noticed is my speedometer doenst recalibrate when i change the tire size on my chip like it should. Could that be considered a download to the ecm?

banditsdiesel 01-20-2011 01:18 PM

if i remember right the speedo is covered by the pcm. and the abs module. if it was ecm it would kick out the program and not take it.
