So lately I've been trying to figure something out that's killing me. My 01 is occasionally sputtering above 2k rpm at highway speeds when I get on it. Say goin 70mph, overdrive obviously, give it some throttle up to about 2100, 2200 rpm and that's about where it starts to sputter/buck. I have 15psi fuel pressure at all times. Initially I thought it felt like the trans OD slipping but then kicked it down to 3rd with the converter locked and it did the same thing. Only not quite as bad. So i don't think it's the trans. It's one of those things that is so hard to figure out where it's coming from. Truck runs perfect otherwise. I ordered a new airdog filter for sh*ts and giggles, but it's only a little over a year old so it's most likely ok. It seemed like it started as soon as it got cold out. Could it be bad fuel? I run diesel kleen in every tank. Sometimes it doesn't sputter at all and runs fine, but most of the time it does what I listed here. Any ideas?

watch yer tack when this happens, if it goes to zero than its the crank position sensor:humm:

Na, tach doesn't go to zero. I thought the tach was controlled by the CAM position sensor. I replaced that when I was doing the vp just as a preventative measure.

you are right I ment cam position sensor................I dont think an 01 has a crank sensor:humm:

well have you pulled codes yet??

No check engine light, haven't scanned it. I do have the snap on solus sanner maybe I'll hit it. I know it's got a few codes because I have a torque locker switch, so it's showing that open circuit. I don't think anything else is gonna show up tho. Truck runs perfect and strong otherwise

I thinking it might be the EDGE been so cold out.Meaning the box itself is very cold.Does it do it when the cab is warm?

kingbrad89 01-13-2011 08:39 PM

True. I think theres a setting in there to monitor module temp. Maybe I'll call edge and ask them if it's a problem. It seems to do it even after like an hour and a half freeway drive so I'm thinking in that amount of time the module should have warmed up. I'm thinking it has something to do with the cold though. If I remember correctly, it didn't buck with the edge on lvl 0. I'll have to go back and try it again though I forget

the comp doesnt moniter module temp. i use to have one. on mine. the juice w/attitude is the one that does. but im thinking its the box itself one of the guys here in town had one on his 02 and it did that and turned out the box had a bad resistor in it. unhook it from the truck and drive it cold to see if it still does it if it doesnt i would send the box back to edge to check it out. and the 01-02 has a cam and crank sensor. but if one of them goes it will throw codes. so that kinda rules out that. the only other thing i can come up with is how old are your injectors sometimes they can cause this problem as well.

Injectors are brand spankin new. Just switched from edge jammer 5's to big dawg 150's. It's not the injectors tho, they ran fine in the warm. And it is the edge juice, all the mods are in my signature

banditsdiesel 01-13-2011 10:08 PM

new injectors dont mean a thing. if the spring/pop off pressure isnt right they will buck and it will be more noticeable in the cold. mine are fine ish in the warmer weather but in this extreme cold we are in now it will beat you out of the truck. so they are coming back out to drop the pop off on them. and your sig said comp so that were i got that. you still wanna unhook it and try that it will be a quick way to rule it out.
