well to start how old is the tranny and how many miles are on it. plus when was the last time it was serviced.

The truck is a 99 and its the original tranny. It has been rebuilt once before. I just put a new filter and fluid in it about a week ago

it sounds like you have more than one problem. the 1-2 shift is hydrolic and the 3-4 shifts are electronic. the 1-2 sounds like a burned or broke band. and the 3-4 sounds either a shift solinoid or low hydrolic pressure. and it could be as simple as a bad o ring in the valve body. if you dont know your way around an auto tranny your best bet is to take it to a certified shop.

Ok. How hard is it to change bands or rbuild the tranny?

well if you have never done it, you need a little skill but it is doable for someone with moderate skills. you dont need any special tools on the 47re. just make sure you have enough room to lay everything out in order. you do have a few specs to follow on setting the clutch pack and the band clearances. i would suggest getting a book on the truck or downloading a manual off the internet for it.

Most likely it is the solenoids in the trans of the 47RE.Here is a site for the upgraded solenoids..."RE" HD Master Electrical Kit 96 to 99

You putting a new filter and fuilded in the trans may have moved some stuff around and clogged the solenoids. You may want to adjust the bands to.

Chrysler
specifies that every time the transmission is serviced
the bands should be checked and adjusted.

you also might wanna check with suncoast on the pressure solenoid upgragde. they are using the pressure solenoids out of allisons in the 47re and they will not clog like the dodge factory one.

you may also just want to check your relays and electrical outside of the tranny before getting in to deep. i have had a similar problem before and it turned out to be a relay.
