2001 dodge won't start
 

my 2001 dodge won't start under 40 degrees, wait to start light won't come on either when motor is cold but will after it is warm, it will turn over for hours and not start but you can roll start it and it will fire right up. Any clues?

sounds like the grid heaters arent workin.....check the fuses

so you can still roll start it if there not working

its the heater grate see if its broking were one of the bolts was on it

Hows the batteries? The Cummins should have no problem starting in 40* weather. Matter of fact it will start up to about -20*. Have you checked your grid heater relay?

the batteries are new the wts will come on sometimes when it does you can hear the selonoid click but still wont start i tried shooting a bit of starting fluid to it and it would't hit off that either. what do i need to do to check the grid heater? i am also getting a dead pedal if i drive it a long way it will idle but when you push the pedal nothing you can shut the truck off and turn it back on and it will work fine?

my codes are 0500,0460,0121,0562,0236. my fuel gauge isnt working and my ABS light is on so a couple of the codes are prolly due to those problems.

No codes? Sounds like a VP issue but I'm not sure why that would involve the grid heater. When you think the grid heater is working, you can feel it at the base of the intake and it should be warm to the touch.

no it doesn't get warm when the light does come. why won't it hit on starting fluid? i have just been rolling it off a hill to start it right now lol once it is started it runs like a top and you can shut it off and it will fire up but if it sits over night below 40 it won't start idk where to begin on this to fix it.

i am also getting a dead pedal sometimes will idle but the foot feed won't do anything i have to shut the truck off then back on and it is fine for a while

Sounds like your grid heater relay is bad. Maybe you should check them out. They're located below the left battery. Also.....STOP using starter fluid. If you spray starting fluid in the intake and the grid heater just happens to cycle, it will ignite the starter fluid and cause massive damage to the engine.....as possibly hurt you in the process.

And as I said before, the dead pedal issue could be APPS or a VP ready to fail. Try resetting the APPS first by fully disconnecting BOTH batteries and waiting at least half an hour. Then reconnect them both back up, turn the key to the ON position and slowly depress the gas pedal to the floor and then slowly back up. Then turn the key off. This will reset the APPS and maybe stop the dead pedal.:tu:

ok thanks ill check them and see if thats the problem how do you go about checking the relay can you put a test light on it to see if it is getting power or what? and i hope that fixes my dead pedal i dont want to spend a grand on the vp but will if i have to, if it was the vp going bad would there be any other symtoms i don't have a fuel pressure gauge just a low pressure light? the truck seems to run great other than the dead pedal and not starting under 40.
