47re lock up fix
last week while driving i had a check engine light come on, so I pulled over to read it with my superchips tuner it showed up as P1757. which is the governor pressure solenoid. When I got home i called the shop where i get got it rebult approx. 14,000 miles ago. he said bring it in and he would check it out. so i dropped it off so he could drive it for a day tested it and he could not get it to throw the code. He also noticed that the convertor would lock and unlock at light throddle. I told him i had a BD doide harness kit on it and it did help and I also pay close attention to the grounds. He told me the ONLY FIX was to remove the negative wire that goes from the alternator to the battery from the wire loom that runs infront of the motor just below the valve cover. INSTRUCTIONS: follow the black W/yellow stripped wire from the neg. bat. post to the alternator it will run into a large wire loom in front of the motor. remove it entirely from this loom it will run into 3 16gauge wires blck with yellow strips at the end. now seperate this wire and zip tie it awy from the large loom. My mechanic zip tied mine to the radiator hose.and over the top of the alternator to the neg bat. post.. This fix has made a HUGE difference could not get it to unlock since this was done. he said the wires in the large loom are postive and it causes noise in the lock up circiut. sorry so long post.:jump:

Hmmm, i may try this to remove some squeal in my radio as well. I´ve done everything else.

I took some foil and put it on the wire coming off the alternator the neg. ground going to the clip thats by the bottom of passenger side battery, and wrappes it with electrical tape. Then took zippy ties to the harness for the alternator and ran them through the holes on the alternator bracket and tightened them pulling the bunch of wires in that harness closer to the bottom side of bracket, call me lucky but this fixed 75% of the tcc lockup on my trans, fixed the buzz in radio, the other 25% of the trans. issue was new grounds for the batterys cables if you will just my 2 cents

hey Chad, I did the same thing also had the BD doide harness installed, but i would still have problems with convertor not locking up at certain times and i do pay close attention to grounds! I was told by my mechanic that you have to completely isolate the alternator wire and the only way is to remove it from the big wire loom in front of the valve cover. All I can say say is to try it, my truck is so much better since.:tu:
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- hey RAWillaims, have you tried this yet? I believe this is the right fix completely separating neg and pos. wires. My truck is awesome now with how it shifts and it stays locked too. |
Okay you talked me into it will try this aternoon and see what it changes
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- well its like i put a shift kit in my trans. i even took the foil off the wire works pretty damn good!:tu: |
Thanks for the post...I've done mine also. Only problem I had while taking the wire out I broke a small black and blue wire in the loom so had to splice it. Anyone happen to know what the black and blue wire is for (just curious if I have problems in the future I'll know where to look).
|
think it goes to ecm tape it up good
|
Ok, Thanks.
|
Haven't tried it yet, I just got home from vacation to be honest. I will look into it as soon as I can.:tu:
|
i think iam gunna try it as soon as i get some time:tu:
|
All I can say is holy $h!t that's honestly the single most inexpensive mod i done, and no not everyone will experience the same outcome i got as every truck is different but i hope others experience the improvement i felt. I removed everything else that i done to my truck to help this situation and this was the fix, kinda feel stupid right now for not thinking of this myself:argh:
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- this takes about 45 minutes to do honest and thats doing another loom and making it neat and using zip ties.:tu: |
Doing this right now, wondering if there is anything wrong with rewiring it. As in taking the thicker end and putting it on the left battery. Completely eleminating it from crossing over. I think it would work.
|
I see what your saying and I don't see a reason it wouldn't man let me know if you have a change in your truck after you do this. I'm liking mine
|
Ok, I have everything done up finally. I cut the 8 ga wire to shorten it an put a new ens on it allowing it to be connected to the left battery. I also spliced a few feet more onto the other piece allowing it to be connected into the original connector, and ran it to the left battery. Now both batteries are connected by this wire.
One thing I noticed is my 8 ga wire runs into 4 16 ga wires. Anyone else notice this? I sure hope my truck isn't more special than it already is. So far I have noticed no difference in the radio squeal, just by running it in the shop. I'll drive it home as per normal and see what else I can notice for differences. |
Mine also runs into 4 wires by the front drivers side of motor almost at the corner of engine
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- might try some foil on your antenna connection behind your reciever where it plugs in and cover it with electrical tape this should help isolate some squeal. |
I just went to double check mine. I also have 4 16 gauge wires. not 3, at first glance i saw 3. anyways i.m glad this fix help and i absolutely love how my truck drives and shifts now!!:rocking::jump:
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- I'm pretty sure they make a filter for radio squeal, plugs into the back of the radio where the antenna plugs into. i thought i've seen a filter for the fords that deals with this to. might try a search or radio shack. |
Don't want to hijack the thread, but there is no difference with the antenna plugged on or not. It's ridicules.
Unfortunately I haven't noticed any difference in my truck since the rewire. It was a good way to spend a evening having a few brew with some buddys though. |
DTT, Suncoast and BD make fixes for this issue.
|
I believe this DIY is much cheaper though.
|
You are correct sir. I have used the DTT noise filter on several trucks with excellent feedback. More expensive but a quicker fix.

Not the cheapest but the best fix of all.Voltage regulator and DTT noise filter.
|
tc lock noise
I had this same problem from all the reading I did each trucks problems can be different. Mine was the first thing I tried. Dielectric grease, greased all elecrtical connections I could get to. Pay attention to any groung you possibably can.
