is my vp44 on its way out?

need some info on what my problem may be. i have a 2000 24v with a 5spd, 150k, it starts everyday never had a problem. it currently starting gettingt the dead pedal and white smoke, sometimes if i reset pedal it will clear out, othertimes it wont but restarting the truck will. sometimes it does it 3 times or more a day, othertimes it wont doit for a few days. i thought possibile lift pump, but read my codes and i have the p216 code. ive read everywhere it means my pumps on its way, but how come sometimes the truck runs 100% fine somedays, and others it dont? im about ready to spend the money on the pump just checking up to see if their may be a simpler solutution such as that curcuit board fix shown in the sticky? any help appreciated, thank you

You can always try the circuit board fix, as you don't have much to lose at this point. Otherwise it's a VP44 I'm afraid... :s:

Sounds like a new pump to me... Especially with the code. It works fine sometimes and not fine other times because it's an electrical problem with the pump. Just like any electrical prob it's gonna be intermittent. Let me know if u would like me to PM you with a new pumps cost.

thoroughbred diesel has the replacement bosch "upgraded" pump for about 1010 shipped, thats the cheapest ive seen yet. wondering if i should spend some extra money and get a fass fuel system or a similar upgraded lift pump? if i should what system is the best bang for the buck

Just leave the inj pump that's supposed to be in the truck, in the truck. I'm sure it's a daily driver, so don't get crazy with it and lose drivability. Yes you need to upgrade lift pumps for sure. The airdog 100 kit is a solid kit that supports over 500 hp and does not require dropping the tank for draw tube placement. As long as you don't have the in tank pump it just snaps onto the stock tube/sending unit. You want over 10psi at all times no matter what on a vp truck. If not yes, you will fry pumps. Especially with programmers. And I'm talkin within like a mile of driving these trucks on pressures under 10 you can kiss a pump good bye. If you have any upgrades at all, you need an aftermarket lp
