a drag comp wont defuel...................I dunno nuttin bout that stack though

cashwheel 10-30-2007 03:52 PM

really, thats interesting, I know guys running the same thing I am and fuel as far as you want to go, but I'm willing to try anything right now cause having to pedal the truck when your trying to make it go fast SUCKS.

for whatever its worth I know if you send a comp into Edge they can make it into a drag comp

Wyatt Earp 10-30-2007 04:02 PM

Stacking the SMARTY and the COMP will get many a smoke screen. It can reset the internal shuttle in the pump which is problematic under major fueling load - causing strange idles and the like. Defueling is a matter for the ECM (IMHO) the pump should carry the fuel to the point that it is being told to do so - hence the DRAG COMP or equal. The SMARTY will reset the shuttle if it isn't too far gone due to the parameters that it revises.

Other than that, I don't know.

Sounds like you may have gotten a bad Vp, my guess would be the electronics are bad.

Mopar1973Man 11-05-2007 09:38 AM

I'm going to agree with BuckShot on this one... Sounds like the VP44 is the limiting factory. IMHO...

I was wondering when you were gonna chime in on this one, you saying that is the final nail in the coffin for the VP, bad part is dodge wont replace it under warranty because its within their specs, oh well.

Hers a list of rebuild facilities in Texas. Just have it tested and then you will know for sure. They will know if it is good or bad more then just meeting the Dodge specs.

thanks Bubba, but I have talked to everyone on that list about the problem, and they say it should be fine, they dont understand why I need it to fuel past 2700, Gus has a VP waiting for me, think I'll just throw one in it and call it good.

Uncle Bubba 11-05-2007 03:25 PM

After I talked to the local rebuilder here, I will never replace another one without having it tested first. The guy i talked to their told me he quit counting in the first few months how many cores they received that were just fine and didn't need to have the pump replaced, just a few parts here and there would have fixed them up for a few dollars. Not to mention the ones that came in with nothing wrong at all and he didn't even know why they were being replaced.

I have to wonder after my conversations with him if these VP-44 trucks deserve the bad reputation or not. I spent a lot of time with this guy when I had all my fueling problems. We tore out, litterally every part of my truck that touched fuel and started from scratch re-assembling because nobody could figure out what the problem was.
