hmmm weird must be a loose wire or a bad level sensor

x2

The connector to the fuel sender is accessible with the box on, but can be tricky to remove. If you can remove it, check the contacts for debris. If you have a multi meter and are handy using it, check continuity between the sender and junction block under the front, left cab support. If all the wiring is good, it is probably the sender itself. My buddy had a level sender problem in his '00. The tank would be empty when the gauge read higher, and everyday it got worse. He finally changed it when 1/2 tank was actually empty.

When mine started doing this on the '02 it was time to replace the sender as that was the issue. $70 from the dealer at the time. You might want to consider just getting the complete canister assembly with the draw straw included from Vulcan if you are going to go that route. Probably save yourself some headache...

is it best to raise the bed to change the fuel sending unit on a 2001 dodge 2500 with 5.9 Cummings engine

in my opinion yes pulling the box off is way easier than dropping the tank i dropped the tank installing my fass but i aint never going to do that again theres only 4 bolt holding the box on pull them then just lift the box off i used a tractor pulling my box off but thats cause i was a one man crew and had a tractor easily available there really light two people could lift one off easy
by the way :hi:
