00 Cummins Crank Sensor
Hey guys newbie here. I just got this 00 Cummins 4x4 2500, the guy I bought it from apprently fell into the Banks catalog and bought a powerpack. Recently the check engine light is on and I got some codes which I have found is the crank postion sensor ( at least its believed) So I dropped the starter and trying to get the bolt out that holds in the crank postion sensor. Its being a complete pain. Any tips on getting it out? Thanks
A few sharp taps on the head may free it up. Not so hard the head deforms, but some good blows. Assuming your changing the sensor you could heat the bolt up allowing heat to tranfer into the shank and threads. Not glowing red hot, but just shy of color change.
The CPS on my truck was plastic so you may not want to heat it up too much, and it is a allen key that you need. Of course i replaced mine when i did the injection pump, its a lot easier that way. Not sure if any of that helps, good luck
thanks for the reply and info. Mine is mount on teh side behind the starter. The bolt that holds it in place just doesnt want to come out at all. Ill fight with it more tonight. I hope to get it out I need the truck for the weekend.... its always something
i think you're talking about cam position sensor. ours have both, cam p.s. behind vp. and crank p.s. behind the starter
