starting question

hey i have a 2000 that wont start very easily anymore i just put an airdog and guages on it this weekend but the problem was starting to occur slightly before that. when you go to start it you have to try about three times then it will finally start. seems to me like it isnt getting any fuel but the truck isnt throwing any codes so i have no idea. anyone had this before? any answers would be greatly appreciated:c:

Just to confirm, it cranks but no start, correct?
What kind of fuel pressure is there during each start attempt?

Yeah it cranks really well.. and I'm not positive on exact pressure but I know I got a 15 psi guage pegged... my guess is injection pump

Too much pressure can cause starting problems, so I have heard. That also makes sense as to why the fuel pump only runs for a second or two when the key is turned on. I suppose one could try jumping in and crank the key direct to start, not waiting for any lights or wait to start to turn off.

I will try that in the a.m.

too much pressure will definitely give starting issues, been there, had that... weak injectors will also make her hard to light. when I bought mine, I had to do a fuel pump, vp44, and she still didn't start nice until I put some new candles in her. now I don't even pay attention to that silly wait to start light anymore. she cranks for about a second before she lights even when it is cold out.

well if i jump in and dont wait to start and just crank it it sometimes starts.. it runs fine going down the road just hard to start.. i am putting a good fuel pressure guage on it soon is there any way to test a vp44 and make sure it is ok?.. and what kind of fuel pressure should i have before start up?

Dose this happen while the motor is cold or hot?Mine wouldnt start after i ran it up to temp.Had to get the computer flashed at dealership.Cranks great now.

Both hot and cold

My Edge doesn't read anypressure when I have the key on, and engine off before I crank. It starts everytime emmediately.
The pressure regulating valve is located in the return line from the VP banjo bolt. There is a small hole that allows fuel to constantly blead off even if relieving pressure is not met. May not hurt to remove this banjo bolt/relief and inspect it for debris. For the price, it may not hurt to replace it as well.
