Tanny Temp
Hello, I have a dilemma. My temp. gauge reads that my transmission is running at 250+ degrees and/or or my gauge is maxed out. What should my tranny temp be running at? Any replies would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

It will usually be about 10-20deg cooler than your engine temp. The tranny cooler lines run through the cooler by the radiator where the engine coolant is and also through the oil cooler on the block. This keeps the fluid warm in the winter so the trans will work properly but dont really help when you want to cool it down... 160-190 is normal.
You may just need a flush and some fresh fluid. |
if your gauge reads that and your truck is not throwing the warning lite of trans temp, and turning over drive off, I would suspect something is wrong with your gauge.

You leave out some important info...where exactly are you measuring the temp?
I suspect the install may not be right or your guage is buggered, but thats just a guess. |
Where is your sending unit at?You need a good ground for the sending unit.Check all the wiring first.

What kind of gauge? I had the same problem at one point and it was an electrical ground throwing the numbers off. Fixed the ground and fixed the problem.
